Each month we choose a patient who we feel represents the mission of Inspire Exercise Medicine. A person who exemplifies hard work and dedication to our program. Eileen Chorman is our nominee for the end of 2024!

“There are three words no one wants to hear from their doctor, “you have cancer”. On March 23, 2024, I was given this horrible news. Many dictates were put in front of me but foremost I had in mind, I have a beautiful family, I have many years to spend with them and to make memories. I put on my boxing gloves and said to this disease, “you have no right to do this to me and I will fight you to the finish”.

I started the protocol of traditional cancer treatment: chemo and radiation. I also started the inspire exercise program and nutrition program, as I went through and still go through my traditional chemo and radiation treatment to do this inspire exercise program. The days I have low energy, and I do the exercise program, it brings to me the positive energy to fight the disease.

I also want it to be known that the whole staff at Inspire is uplifting. Even on my low energy days, I push through the exercises, and I’m told I am doing a good job. As a last thought, there is an expression called “Yogism”. It’s 90%mutual; the other half is physical. I thank you Inspire for taking this journey with me and helping me defeat this disease.”

From the Dietitian

2024 has been a year to remember—though not always for the best reasons. Life has a way of teaching us lessons through challenges we didn’t ask for, and while it may feel unfair, these are often the moments that shape us the most. Some years leave a mark on you, not because of the good, but because of how much they make you grow.

As this year comes to an end, I’ve been reflecting on what really matters. The quote above speaks to a simple truth: the only thing we leave behind is the impact we’ve had on others. Money, possessions, and status stay behind, and no amount of wealth can buy back health, time, or the past. What’s done is done, and we have to find a way to live with it.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t use the past as a tool. We can learn from it and let it guide us toward a better future. It’s not about erasing mistakes or hardships but about letting them shape the person we’re becoming.

I know this isn’t new advice, but I think we all need reminders now and then. Life moves fast, and it’s easy to lose sight of what’s important. This is my reminder to live with intention, focus on the things that matter, and not take the little joys for granted.

As we look back on 2024, let’s take the lessons we’ve learned and use them to move forward with purpose. We can’t control everything, but we can choose how we respond and what kind of future we build for ourselves and those around us.

Here’s to closing this chapter with gratitude and starting the next one with hope.
